To celebrate Qatar's hosting of the FIFA World Cup in 2022, architect Ibrahim M Jaidah created a structure in the shape of the year 2022 in Doha, Qatar.

The Iconic 2022 structure, located in Doha Sports City near the Khalifa International Stadium, which will host games during this year's World Cup, is billed by its developer as "the first building in the world to resemble a year."

Jaidah, the principal architect of Arab Engineering Bureau and the man behind the gahfiya cap-shaped Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, designed Iconic 2022 for developer Nasser bin Hamad Al Thani.

The project is remarkable since it began with a basic concept "Jaidah stated. "'Ibrahim, I have a difficult idea for you,' Sheikh Nasser stated.

The structure is made out of four blocks, each with a stone facade organised around windows to resemble a number two or zero.

A two-story podium connects the number-adorned blocks.

A supermarket, cafe, and restaurants are located on the podium's ground floor, while a sports centre and health clubs are located on the level above.
